What safety protection do i need when refinishing my hardwood floors?

You want to make sure you wear the proper gear. Gloves are used when applying polyurethane. Mask are used when both applying urethanes or varnishes. Mask's are also used when sanding and scraping. Especially if you do not have dustless drum machines or edgers, you should be using masks.

Knee pads are used for when your working in all the corners. Headphones are for all the noise coming off the buffer, vacuums, drum, and edger. Gloves are also used for carrying machines in and out of the homes as well as handling the sandpaper.

Can I Bleach My Hardwood Floors?

Leave bleaching up to the professionals. When bleaching wood floors, it is always best to bleach twice to truly get a light and white look. Red oak is very hard to get out all of the pink completely, so use precaution. White oak has has very little pink tones if any and will bleach out the best. One does have to be care of the green tones in the boards as well when bleaching.

After two rounds of bleaching of the wood, its is best to use part b of the bleach solution provide by the manufacturer. Sometimes this is used twice to even out any discoloration. A vinegar wash is also used sometimes to stop the bleaching. All of this is provided on the label of your bleach bottles.

Lastly, you have to wait 24 hrs to be safe everything is drey before applying your wood stain. Once, all is dry you can complete the refinishing process as normally done.

Do Black or Dark Stained Hardwood Floors Get Dirty Easier? Do They Show Dirt and Dust More?

Black floors don't show "dirt" more than any other color hardwood floors. They actually hide dirt or stains more because they are dark. The wood shows light dust but only after weeks of build up and mainly in front of window areas where the sunlight is directly shining on the floors. This is because light white dust against dark tones show up. But, this is only after a few weeks and its really not that obvious. A simple dust routine and cleaning (which should be done regardless) will take care of any dust problems.

Sometimes there are problems with blemishes or the floors taking on footprints easily. This has to do with the polyurethane finish that is on the floors and not the actual color. Some sealers and finishes are more susceptible to these problems than others.

What Types Of Wood Flooring Are In Style in 2020 in New York.

Wide boards are definitely in style in 2020. More spaces have it be residential or commercial are loving the wide board style. There are many to choose from and the wood can go past 12 inches wide. The most typical are anywhere from 3.5 inches to 8 inches wide. When it comes to refinishing the hardwood floors using wide planks, most customers are going with a really light and natural polyurethane, bleaching, or going in the dark walnut/ebony range.

Can I Refinish My Hardwood Floors Myself?

When refinishing your hardwood floors, there are basic tools that are used. A drum machine, edger, scrapers, buffer, multi disc driver, and vacuums. Most of these items you can rent from your local rental store but they will be of low quality. This is because they are usually old, not working properly, and kick out a lot of dust. Rental equipment will most likely damage your floors leaving big machine marks and an uneven sanding.

A high quality dustless wood floor refinishing company will have top grade machines that are up to date, have regular maintenance done, and sand your floors really smooth without the messy dust left behind. The quality of the sanding is far superior not only because of the machines but because of the mechanic using the machines who usually have years of experience.

Your hardwood floors are one of the biggest valuable assets to your home. It is not worth risking such an important part of your home to save money here. Overall, it is best to hire a professional because the rental equipment is usually really bad at sanding smooth and it takes years of experience to not cause damage to the wood floors while sanding and refinishing them.

If you are considering a dustless wood floor refinishing to finish your floors contact Wood Vitalize in New York, NY. They also have locations in Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Westchester County.

Does Your Polyurethane Finish Have A Cloudy Look?

This problem can occur for multiple reasons. The biggest reason why this happens is because one of the layers of polyurethane was applied before the previous layer was completely dry. Trapped chemicals results it the hazy look. This can also occur if your mixing different polyurethanes together.

The solution would be either to screen the floors (lightly sand them) and apply new layers of finish (polyurethane) or to completely sand the floors over. Do a test spot to determine the best results.

How To Determine What Finish Is On Your Hardwood Floors Before Refinishing?

How To Determine What Finish Is On Your

Hardwood Floors Before Refinishing?

Being Careful When Applying Wood Floor Polyurethane Is Very Important.

Use mineral spirits to test what is currently on the floors. Urethane will not be affected while Lacquer will dissolve. While, wax turns white when water is added to it. Also, Shellac dissolves by denatured alcohol.  For all your refinishing questions, we would be happy to help. You can contact us at 1-888-901-7445 or with the information below.

What are the parts of the hardwood floors that are available in today's market? How does that influence how you refinish your wood floors? Wood Vitalize has the answers to these questions.

Parts of the trunk include the bark phloem, cambium, sapwood, and heartwood. All of these areas produce growth rings that we call the grains of the hardwood floor boards. Newly formed wood in the trunk is called sapwood which grows older into the areas called heartwood. Heartwood is sensitive to moisture than sapwood.
